Meet Our Kansas Attorneys

A James Gillmore.png

Jim Gillmore our senior-most attorney – and a native of Newton, KS – has practiced law for 49 years, and predominantly works in the areas of estate planning, probate law, real estate law, agricultural law and corporate law.

In 1972 Gillmore graduated from the University of Kansas School of Law, where he had served on the Kansas Law Review, a student-edited law journal, as Topic Editor. For the journal he wrote such articles as “Three Constitutionally Permissible Ways to Handle Unruly Clients,” and then later went on to write articles for the Kansas Bar Association Journal.

After graduation Gillmore spent several years practicing privately as well as government work, until returning to his hometown in 1975 and joined the law firm Speir, Storberg & Sizemore, which later became Sizemore, Burns & Gillmore and now Gillmore & Wilson, LLC.

Then in 1977 Gillmore went on to obtain his Master of Law in Administrative Law from Washington D.C.’s George Washington University, afterwards he maintained a seat within the Kansas Legislature until 1979.

Now Gillmore continues that same practice he joined in 1975, although the name has changed the quality legal services have not.

Matt Wilson partnered with Jim Gillmore in 2020, giving new life to Sizemore, Burns & Gillmore and changing it to Gillmore & Wilson, LLC.

Before becoming an attorney, Wilson spent 6 years in the Marines where he was promoted to the rank of Sargent. Then after leaving the military Wilson joined the police force for 7 years, first as a Cowley County Sheriff’s deputy and then an officer with Washburn University’s police department while attending law school.

In 2003 Wilson graduated from the Washburn University School of Law, where he received the Raymond Spring Award – an award given by the Kansas Trial Lawyer Association and Washburn Law Clinic to individuals that have displayed outstanding trial advocacy in the law clinic.

Wilson began his legal career as a deputy county attorney for Cowley and Sumner Counties before opening his own private practice in 2008.

Now his path has led to a partnership with Gillmore and formation of Gillmore & Wilson.

As partner, Wilson does criminal law, family law, estate planning and the many other legal services that we provide. He also happens to be the resident dad joke maker, eliciting plenty of groans around the office.
